“The Aesthetic Center has changed my life!”
– Barbara Lex

As a Filipina who has dealt with dark facial hair my entire life, I never thought laser hair removal was an option. Through my 20s and 30s, I was told this procedure works best with light skin and dark hair; however, when The Aesthetic Center opened and offered a free consultation, I jumped at the chance.

When I first met Emily May, ARNP, DNP, she was very welcoming and put all my fears and anxieties at ease. She calmed my worries about being the only woman in the world who is embarrassed by her facial hair and let me know I wasn’t alone. What I genuinely appreciated from Emily is not only how personable she was, but also that she was honest with me and discussed how successful laser treatment would be with my skin color and hair. Emily was knowledgeable and explained that the laser focused on pigment and that’s why darker skinned people have been less successful. Because she wasn’t certain about my coloring, Emily said she would consult someone and asked if I would be okay if she took some pictures. Normally, someone taking pictures of my mustache and chin hair is a solid no, but Emily’s sincerity put all my worries to rest. What’s more is she never promised my hair could be removed, only that she would reach out to me once she received her answer. I returned home armed with information and wonderful samples, but I wasn’t hopeful.

To my delight, Emily texted me the next day, and said she didn’t think my coloring would be an issue, but to make sure there was no discoloration, the laser could be set lower. If I had a reaction, we would stop treatment. Otherwise, she would record what she did and the settings to ensure I was never receiving something that would damage my skin. I was thrilled when we scheduled the first procedure.

During my first procedure, Emily welcomed me and before starting anything, she explained again what the procedure would entail and what she would be doing. Not only that, but Emily explained every single step prior to performing it, and asked constantly about my comfort.  When we finished, she told me what to expect from my skin, the newly lasered hair, and how each appointment thereafter would look. I have never felt more comfortable having someone so close to my face.

Prior to Emily’s maternity leave, she asked me if I was okay if someone else continued my treatment; if not, I could wait until she returned from maternity leave. That thoughtfulness is something I’ll always remember. She made me feel like a friend and someone she cared about rather than just another laser hair removal patient. Her confidence in Whitney Weis, DNP, FNP, ARNP-C, gave me confidence.

When Whitney Weis took over my care, I was impressed with how the two of them communicated. Whitney knew my history and tripled checked Emily’s notes before doing anything. Again, Whitney surpassed my expectations. She was easy to speak with and she genuinely cared, too. I appreciate that my tolerance for pain was always checked. Every appointment was like being greeted by an old friend, and she took her time to ensure every hair was lasered.

My last procedure was today, and I was both sad and elated. Emily and Whitney have changed my life for the better and helped me feel better about something I have no control over. They always made me comfortable and were so supportive, always offering their availability if ever I had questions.

Not only that, but Emily was right – the slow and steady method worked – and my face looks better than ever. I know I may need a yearly touch up, but again, both Emily and Whitney have always been transparent about that possibility. Once a year is totally worth the touch up!

I cannot express my gratitude enough for your services, especially to Emily May, ARNP, DNP, and Whitney Weis, DNP, FNP, ARNP-C. Thank you for working with me and being an advocate for me.
